Diese Anleitung wurde mit der OpenVPN Connect Version 3.7.1 erstellt.

These instructions were written with the OpenVPN Connect Version 3.7.1.

Mehr-Faktor-Authentifizierung einrichten / Set up Multi-Factor-Authentification

Schritt 0: Da alle Studierenden, Mitarbeitenden und anderweitig Anghörigen der HHU das VPN mit MFA Schutz nutzen müssen, setzt die Anleitung für VPN mit MFA voraus, dass Sie die Mulitfaktorauthentifizierung bereits eingerichtet haben (z.B. Kurzzeitige Einmal-Passwörter nach dieser Anleitung https://wiki.hhu.de/x/jAA5IQ). 

Step 0: As all studens, staff and otherwise affiliated members of the HHU must use the VPN with MFA protection, the instructions for VPN with MFA require that you have already set up multi-factor authentication (e.g. short-term one-time passwords according to these instructions https://wiki.hhu.de/x/jAA5IQ).

Installation der App / App install

 Schritt 1: Suchen Sie im AppStore nach der App OpenVPN Connect (1) und installieren Sie diese (2).

Step 1: Download the OpenVPN app (1) from OpenVPN company and install it (2).

Schritt 2: Öffnen Sie im Browser (in unserem Beispiel Firefox) die Seite https://mfa.vpn.hhu.de und loggen Sie sich mit Ihrer Uni-Kennung (1) und dem Unipasswort (2) ein. Tippen Sie auf den für Sie zutreffenden (im Zweifel oberen) Link mit der Bezeichnung ".ovpn". Tippen Sie im Pop-Up-Fenster auf "Jetzt herunterladen".

Step 2: Open the page https://mfa.vpn.hhu.de in the browser (in our example Firefox) and log in with your university ID. Tap on the appropriate (upper if in doubt) link labeled .ovpn. In the pop-up window, tap download

Schritt 3: Öffnen Sie nun die Downloads (in Firefox direkt über den angezeigten Knopf oder über das Hamburger-Menü unten rechts; in Safari über den Pfeil unten links) und tippen Sie auf das heruntergeladene Profil. Klicken Sie auf das Teilen-Symbol.

Step 3: Now open the downloads (in Firefox via the seen botton or the burger menu at the bottom right; in Safari via the arrow at the bottom left) and tap on the downloaded profile.

Schritt 4: Tippen Sie im sich öffnenden Menü auf das Logo der OpenVPN App. Wird dieses nicht angezeigt, tippen Sie alternativ ganz rechts auf "Mehr" ... und suchen dort nach dem App-Logo.

Step 4: In the opened menu, click on the OpenVPN app logo. If it doesn't immediately show up, scroll to the far right until you reach the "more"... button, click it and look for the logo there.

Schritt 5: Es öffnet sich die OpenVPN Connect App. Beim ersten Start des Clients werde die Bedingungen der Datenerhebung, -nutzung und -aufbewahrung angezeigt, welche man zum Fortfahren akzeptieren muss.

Step 5: The OpenVPN Connect app will open. When the client is started for the first time, the conditions for data collection, use and storage are displayed, which must be accepted in order to continue.

 Schritt 6:Tippen Sie nun unterhalb von "Standard Profile" auf "Add". Im neuen Dialog geben Sie unter "Username" Ihre Unikennung ein (1). Aktivieren Sie "Save password" (2) und geben Sie das Passwort ein, welches Sie mit Ihrer Uni-Kennung nutzen (3). Tippen Sie danach unten rechts auf "CONNECT" (4).

Step 6: Afterwards, tap on "Add" below "Standard Profile". In the new dialog, enter your university username under Username (1). Check "Save password" and enter your password.

Then tap "CONNECT" at the bottom right (4).

Schritt 7: Es wird abgefragt, ob dem Gerät eine neue VPN-Konfiguration hinzugefügt werden darf. Klicken Sie auf "Erlauben". Sie werden in die Einstellungen geleitet, wo ggf. Ihre Sperrmethode des Geräts abgefragt wird (Code oder FaceID).

Step 7: You will be asked whether a new VPN configuration may be added to the device. Click on “Allow”. You will be redirected to the settings where you will be asked for your devices lock method (code or FaceID).

Schritt 8: In der App OpenVPN Connect können Sie nun den Schalter umlegen, um die VPN-Verbindung aufzubauen. Bei HHU-Beschäftigten, die MFA nutzen, heißt das Profil "node1.vpn.hhu.de", bei Studierenden und externen Lehrenden ohne MFA "vpn.hhu.de".

Step 8: In the OpenVPN Connect app you can now flip the switch to establish the VPN connection. For HHU staff using MFA the profile name is "node1.vpn.hhu.de", for students and external lecturers without MFA "vpn.hhu.de".

Schritt 9: Es öffnet sich nun im Browser eine Authentifizierungsseite. Geben Sie hier Ihre Unikennung (1) und Ihr Unipasswort (2) ein. Klicken Sie anschließend auf die rote Schaltfläche "Anmelden" (3). 

Step 9: A authentification page will open in your browser. Please enter your university username (1) and your university password (2). Then click at the "Login" button (3).

Schritt 9: Wählen Sie aus der Liste einen Ihrer zweiten Faktoren aus und klicken Sie auf "Weiter".

Je nachdem, was für einen zweiten Faktor Sie ausgewählt haben, müssen Sie diesen nun nutzen.

Hier im Beispiel: Bei TOTP (Einmalpasswort) müssen Sie den Zahlencode, den Ihnen die Authenticator-App anzeigt, in das Textfeld eingeben (1) und dann "Überprüfen" klicken (2). 

Step 9: Select one of your second factors from the list and click "Next".

Depending on which second factor you have selected you would have to use it.

In this example shown: If you selected TOTP (one time password) you would have to enter the number code displayed in the authenticator app (1) and then click "Verify" (2).

Schritt 10: OpenVPN baut nun eine Verbindung zum HHU-Netz auf. Die Verbindung steht, wenn bei Profiles in grün Connected angezeigt wird. Um OpenVPN zu beenden, klicken Sie einfach auf den grünen Schieber unter „Connected“ und dann auf "Confirm".

Step 10: OpenVPN now establishes a connection to the HHU network. The connection is established when Connected is displayed in green under Profiles. To terminate OpenVPN, simply click on the green slider under "Connected" and then "Confirm".
