Sample characterization and backup:Before you finish working in the lab make sure you have all your characterization of your compounds done and have saved and backed up your data from the lab computers. Backed up digital data should include: manuscripts, thesis, NMR spectra, UV/CD spectra, titrations, graphs, mass spectra, IR etc. Give a copy of this folder to your supervisor on an USB stick or save it on the group hard drive.

Organize and catalog samples:Compounds should be consolidated into as few boxes as possible and stored in screw-top or snap-lid vials, labelled with your name, date, name of compound, labjournal reference and drawing of structure. An index to the samples (with approximate amount/mass) should be placed in your notebook that describes the location and identity of each sample in sample boxes. Show this list and samples to your supervisor (Lena or PhD student)

Dispose of useless reagents and clean up lab area and glassware.

(Provide soft and hard-bound copies of thesis/report to Lena.) - discuss with her.

Finish making notebook entries: discuss with your supervisor how to organise the labbook access whilst you are writing the report. After you have handed everything in, transfer your ELN to your supervisor and hand in all hand-written labbooks as well.

If applicable: Return any keys to Lena on your last day.

Best of luck in your further studies and keep in touch!
